Directory of Mental Health Clinicians with Training in Forensic Evaluation

The Expert Directory is a database that contains all mental health clinicians residing in the Commonwealth of Virginia who have completed either the Adult Basic or Juvenile Basic Training sequence at the Institute for Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy at the University of Virginia.

This training meets the requirement for Commisioner Approved training referenced in the Virginia Code in the statute that govern the evaluation of competance to stand trial/CST (§19.2-169.1), sanity at the time of the offense/MSO (§19.2-169.5), and mental state relevant to capital murder (§19.2-264.3:1).  It also lists by evaluator additional training in violence risk assessment, sex offender evaluations, and the evaluation of defendants found not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI).

The Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy does not certify forensic evaluators.  However, all evaluators must pass an examination and submit a work product in order to complete the Adult and Juvenile Training sequences and to be listed in the Evaluator Directory.
